Our Story

The story goes

In 1960, when Bruce T. Halle founded Discount Tire, the road ahead looked bumpy. Armed with only six tires and a deeply held belief in fairness and integrity, Halle established his first store in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The sole employee, Halle was the tire technician, accountant, sign painter and cleaning crew.

Today, Discount Tire is the world’s largest independent tire and wheel retailer with more than 1,100 stores in 37 states. The company has remained true to Halle’s vision, which centers on a heartfelt commitment to each customer and employee. He attributed his phenomenal success to hard work, faith, and perseverance.

In 2002, Bruce and Diane Halle founded the Diane & Bruce Halle Foundation to extend that sense of caring to the larger community. The Halle Foundation now serves as a statewide leader in providing philanthropic resources for organizations working in the fields of human services, health & medical, education, arts & culture, and spirituality. The Halle Foundation identifies and funds outstanding nonprofits to ensure that all people can build healthy, productive, and inspiring lives.
